Here, the Karakoram and Hindu Kush mountains converge, cradling villages where our faith has flourished for centuries, where Jamatkhanas stood long before roads reached these valleys, and where community has always meant something deeper than proximity.
This journey goes beyond sightseeing. We visit women's cooperatives, schools, and health centres woven into the fabric of mountain life, living expressions of the ethic of service and care that has shaped our community for generations. We pray together in historic Jamatkhanas. We sit with artisans, farmers, and elders whose commitment to community, service, and faith resonates deeply with our own.
This is a journey for those who want to return to something. Not just see it. To connect with the people, places, and stories that continue to shape who we are.

Throughout the journey, we'll visit Jamatkhanas across the region, some more than a century old, and experience the spiritual traditions that continue to shape life in these mountain communities. From glacier-fed lakes to some of the world's highest peaks, Northern Pakistan inspires a sense of wonder that is difficult to put into words. These are not simply beautiful places. They are the landscapes that shaped generations of mountain communities and the stories they carry.
Long before anyone called it empowerment, women across Northern Pakistan were building institutions, nurturing communities, preserving traditions, and creating opportunities for future generations. Through conversations with entrepreneurs, artisans, educators, and community leaders, we gain a deeper appreciation for the leadership, creativity, and determination that continue to shape life in these mountains.

We are Ismaili. We grew up hearing about places like Hunza, Gilgit, and the Karakoram as more than destinations. They are part of our shared story as a community. These mountain communities are where our faith has flourished for centuries, where Jamatkhanas stood long before roads reached the valleys, and where generations built lives shaped by service, resilience, and community.
For years, we heard about the schools, health centres, cooperatives, and development projects that transformed life across the region. We heard stories of mountain villages framed by some of the world's highest peaks. We saw photos of places that felt both distant and deeply familiar.
Eventually, we decided to go.
We wanted to pray in a Jamatkhana at the foot of a glacier. We wanted to meet the people behind the stories. We wanted to better understand the communities that have shaped so much of our shared story.
So we planned the trip we always wished existed. This is it.

Planning a journey to Northern Pakistan comes with plenty of questions. Here are some of the details we know so far. As the itinerary and travel dates are finalised, we'll continue to update this page.

Musaafir is planned as an approximately 11-day group journey through Northern Pakistan, including Skardu, Gilgit, Hunza, Gojal, and Khunjerab.
We are planning for a group of approximately 30 travellers. We want the group to be large enough to create a fun, diverse community while still allowing for meaningful shared experiences.
Musaafir is being designed for Ismailis from around the world who are interested in experiencing Northern Pakistan through community, culture, history, landscape, and connection.
Expect full and active days that may include sightseeing, scenic drives, community visits, shared meals, cultural experiences, and some early mornings.
There will also be opportunities to slow down, take in the landscape, and enjoy time together as a group.
Musaafir is not intended to be a trekking expedition, but travelling through Northern Pakistan does require a reasonable level of mobility.
Travellers should expect walking, stairs, uneven surfaces, getting in and out of vehicles, and time spent at higher elevations.
Parts of the journey will take us to significant elevations, with Khunjerab Pass reaching approximately 15,400 feet above sea level.
The itinerary will be designed with altitude and acclimatisation in mind. Detailed guidance will be shared with confirmed travellers before departure.
We plan to use comfortable hotels and locally appropriate accommodations selected for their location, quality, safety, and overall experience. Specific hotels and rooming options will be shared once the itinerary is finalised.
The journey is expected to include a combination of domestic flights and private group ground transportation. Travel in the Northern Areas is part of the experience, and some days may include longer scenic drives through mountain landscapes.
We expect most group meals to be included in the trip cost, with opportunities to experience both local cuisine and familiar options throughout the journey. We will gather information about dietary restrictions and food allergies before the trip.
Healthcare facilities vary significantly across the regions we will visit. We will provide travellers with additional information about health preparation, medications, altitude, emergency planning, and medical access before departure.
Travellers will be expected to carry appropriate travel insurance and a health professional will be joining us on the trip.
The core Musaafir itinerary is expected to begin and end in Islamabad. Travellers may have the option to structure their broader international journey through Islamabad, Karachi, or Dubai.
The Musaafir itinerary is being designed as a shared group experience, so we are not currently planning around late arrivals or early departures during the core Northern Pakistan itinerary. If you have a specific travel need, let us know when you register your interest.
Travellers are responsible for ensuring they have the appropriate entry documents for Pakistan based on their citizenship and individual circumstances. Once the group is confirmed, we will provide guidance and important deadlines to help travellers plan.
Yes. We expect travellers to have comprehensive travel insurance that includes medical coverage, trip interruption or cancellation, and coverage appropriate for the destinations and activities on the itinerary.
Travel in Northern Pakistan can be affected by weather, road conditions, flight schedules, and political events. Our itinerary will be planned with this in mind, but flexibility is part of travelling through the region. Any necessary adjustments will be made with the safety and overall experience of the group as the priority.
